Give your skull a clean, natural finish without the damage that can come from boiling. Dermestid beetles carefully remove remaining tissue while helping preserve delicate nasal structures, fine bone details, and the overall integrity of the skull.

Each specimen is different, so please contact BLT Fur & Fun before shipping or dropping off any head. We’ll confirm that your specimen can be accepted, discuss preparation and add-ons, and provide current turnaround expectations.

Preparing Your Specimen

Unless you are purchasing the skinning add-on, please:

• Remove the hide, eyes, tongue, and as much excess meat as reasonably possible.
• Freeze the head promptly and keep it frozen until drop-off or shipment.
• Double-bag and clearly label the specimen with your name, contact information, species, and harvest date.
• Do not boil, salt, bleach, bury, chemically treat, or allow the head to decompose.
• Do not ship a specimen until shipping arrangements have been confirmed.

Skinning is available for an additional $40 if you would prefer to bring in the head intact.

Turnaround Time

Skull cleaning is a natural process and cannot be rushed. Turnaround varies depending on the species, size and condition of the specimen, fat and grease content, requested finishing services, current workload, and beetle-colony activity.

An estimated timeframe will be provided when your specimen is accepted, but completion dates are not guaranteed.

No rotten heads. No rushed orders.

Deadheads, mummified specimens, damaged skulls, and other unusually dried or deteriorated heads require additional preparation and are quoted individually.

Deposit and Final Payment

A 50% deposit is required before work begins. Any selected add-ons will be included in your final service total. The remaining balance is due when the skull is complete and before pickup or return shipping.

• Lower jaw cleaning: +$40
• Deadheads and mummified specimens: quoted individually

Legal Requirements

Customers are responsible for ensuring every specimen was legally acquired and may be legally possessed, transported, and transferred for cleaning. Any required hunting license information, harvest tag, permit, proof of legal possession, or other documentation must remain with or accompany the specimen as required by law.

BLT Fur & Fun reserves the right to refuse any specimen that arrives without required documentation or that cannot legally be accepted.
