Our Story
Skulls • Fur • Goods
Waste Nothing.
Hi, I’m Brooke—co-founder, maker, and the hands behind much of what you see at BLT Fur & Fun.
BLT didn’t begin as a traditional skincare company or leather brand. It grew from hunting, trapping, working with animals, and a deep belief that useful materials deserve more than being discarded.
From dermestid-cleaned skulls and hand-worked hides to tallow balms, leather care, and one-of-a-kind goods, everything we create is connected by one simple philosophy: waste nothing and respect where it came from.
From the Trapline
Trapping is part of the story behind BLT Fur & Fun—not simply as an outdoor tradition, but as a hands-on connection to wildlife, responsible use, and rural life.
Whenever possible, we find a purpose for more than the hide. Skulls can be cleaned and preserved. Fur can be tanned and worked. Teeth, bones, feathers, leather, and even carefully rendered fat can become something useful instead of being thrown away.
That mindset led to products like our Raccoon Leather Treat, made with rendered raccoon tallow, neatsfoot oil, and beeswax to condition boots, tack, and hardworking leather goods.
Skulls Worth Preserving
Every skull tells a story.
Our skull-cleaning services use dermestid beetles to carefully remove tissue while preserving the delicate structures that can be damaged by boiling or harsh processing. Whether the skull comes from a hunt, the trapline, livestock, or a legally obtained specimen, each one is handled with patience and respect.
The finished piece is more than décor. It is a record of the animal, the experience, and the land it came from.
Fur with a Future
We believe hides and fur should be valued, used, and appreciated.
Working with fur is a slow process that requires patience—from fleshing and pickling to tanning, breaking, finishing, and eventually turning the hide into something that can be displayed, worn, or used.
Natural variation is part of the beauty. No two hides, skulls, feathers, or pieces of leather will ever be exactly alike, and we have no interest in sanding away the character that makes them real.
Tallow, Botanicals, and Simple Ingredients
Our body balms follow the same waste-nothing philosophy.
We begin with locally sourced, grass-fed beef tallow and blend it with thoughtfully chosen oils and botanical infusions. Each formula is made by hand in small batches for dry skin, hardworking hands, and everyday use.
Rather than building formulas around long ingredient lists, we focus on ingredients we understand and use ourselves.
Made by Hand in Idaho
BLT Fur & Fun is built around honest materials and hands-on work. Our products are rendered, cleaned, tanned, infused, cut, stitched, blended, and finished in small batches—not pulled from a factory catalog and relabeled.
Some pieces begin on the trapline. Others begin with a local hide, a jar of botanicals, a skull brought in by a customer, or a material someone else might have overlooked.
Wherever they begin, the goal is the same: honor the material, make it useful, and create something worth keeping.
Thank you for supporting a small Idaho business that believes the best way to respect what we have is to use it well.
